The Callipeplon Society was founded as a non-profit corporation in California in 1984 by Yvonne Rand and William Sterling for the purpose of advancing the knowledge of Buddhism. The name “Callipeplon” means “beautiful robe” in ancient Greek. The imagery arises from the commitment of the founders of the Callipeplon Society to clothe their thoughts, words, and actions in the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha, which are conducive to mental clarity and universal compassion.
After the deaths of William in 2019 and Yvonne in 2020, the board members of the society decided they would continue the original mission and focus on conserving, archiving, and making available Yvonne Rand’s teachings. This website will serve as a portal to this ongoing work.
